The Balvenie 14 Year Old American Bourbon Barrel – Master of Malt, £89
The Balvenie 18 Year Old French Pineau Cask – Master of Malt, £300
The Balvenie’s A Collection of Curious Casks exemplifies The Balvenie distillery’s constant innovation and commitment to producing the most exceptional Single Malt Scotch whisky. The two new additions to the UK market include a 14 year old American Bourbon Barrel and an 18 year old French Pineau Cask, each hand-selected by Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie.
Nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Dufftown, Speyside, The Balvenie distillery has been handcrafting whisky for more than 125 years, notably the most handcrafted of single malts. Nowhere else can you find a distillery that grows its own barley, malts on its own traditional floor maltings and still employs a team of coopers to tend to the casks alongside a coppersmith to maintain the stills.
With a team committed to ultimate craftsmanship, they pour their soul and obsession into every bottle. This demonstrates that, whilst it takes skill to make something great, it takes true heart to make it extraordinary. And of course, Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie presides over the all-important maturation process.
Founded in 1892 by William Grant, The Balvenie Single Malt Scotch Whisky is produced by William Grant & Sons Ltd, an award-winning independent family-owned distiller and today run by his direct descendants. Each expression has a very individual taste, rich, luxuriously smooth and underpinned by the distinctively honeyed character of The Balvenie.
Glenfiddich 14 Year Old Bourbon Barrel Reserve – Amazon, £48
Glenfiddich has added the indulgent Glenfiddich 14 Year Old Bourbon Barrel Reserve to its Flagship collection in the UK. Beloved in the US, the Bourbon Barrel Reserve 14 Year Old is Glenfiddich’s first whisky matured in two types of American oak barrel.
Founded in Dufftown, Scotland by William Grant and his family with a vision to create ‘The best dram in the valley’, Glenfiddich first flowed from the stills on Christmas Day, 1887. The family’s pioneering spirit has seen Glenfiddich excel for over a hundred and thirty years. In 1963 it started actively marketing outside of Scotland, creating the single malt category as it exists today.
Glenfiddich is the world’s most awarded single malt scotch whisky* but its heart remains in the Highlands. The Robbie Dhu spring still flows through the distillery as it did when William Grant and his family built it. The granite stones still stand as strong as they did in 1887. The spirit is as inspired today as it was when it first flowed from the stills over a century ago.
William Grant & Sons, Ltd. is an independent family-owned distiller headquartered in the United Kingdom and founded by William Grant in 1887. Today, the luxury spirits company is run by the sixth generation of his family and distils some of the world’s leading brands of Scotch whisky, including the world’s most awarded single malt Glenfiddich®, The Balvenie® range of handcrafted single malts and the world’s fourth largest blended Scotch Grant’s® as well as other iconic spirits brands such as Hendrick’s® Gin, Sailor Jerry®, Milagro® Tequila, Tullamore D.E.W.® Irish Whiskey, Monkey Shoulder® and Drambuie®.
