Expanding the cold storage network

In this issue of Food & Drink Matters, we are pleased to feature Seven Refrigeration as our Refrigeration Experts Company of the Month.

Commercial Branding Photography of a Business including headshotsEstablished in 1997, Seven Refrigeration has almost three decades of experience in refrigerated container hire. Founded by Roy Dunnet, the business grew from his background in transport and logistics, initially encompassing vehicle contract hire before expanding into refrigerated containers.

Based in Ipswich, Seven Refrigeration remains closely connected to its Suffolk roots, while its network enables it to supply customers across the UK. As part of the wider Seven Group, the company specialises in the hire of 20ft and 40ft refrigerated containers, which are used for applications ranging from food and drink storage to pharmaceutical and other temperature-sensitive products.

The flexibility of refrigerated container hire means the units can be used in a variety of settings, whether additional capacity is needed during periods of increased demand, temporary storage is required during refurbishment or expansion, or a business needs a dedicated temperature-controlled environment. This flexibility is particularly relevant to sectors where maintaining consistent storage conditions is essential.

Customer retention has been an important milestone for the business, with the company attributing its long-standing client relationships to a focus on service and support. Its offering includes 24/7 assistance, nationwide delivery, flexible hire terms and installation by Seven engineers. Containers are equipped with features including LED lighting, slip-resistant ramps, slip-resistant flat floors and panic alarms, while temperature monitoring provides an additional level of oversight.

“Our guiding philosophy is to deliver the promise of quality,” says Anthony Joy, Managing Director. “As a division, our tagline is: The storage you need, when & where you need it.”

Remote monitoring is also available across the fleet of temperature-controlled containers as an aid. The system monitors conditions in real time and can send email alerts if temperatures move outside a defined range, a door is left open or there is a power failure. Customers can also view temperature data through a web browser, including historical information that can help identify changes in storage conditions.

The ability to monitor conditions remotely can be particularly useful where refrigerated storage is being used for products that require controlled temperatures over extended periods. Rather than relying solely on physical checks, customers can review data and receive alerts when attention may be required.

The company continues to invest in new refrigeration equipment, with purpose-built units added to its fleet each year. Its latest development is a range of bespoke wide-body refrigerated units, including three and four-bay configurations, aimed at customers requiring more space or a solution beyond the dimensions of a standard container.

The introduction of these larger units reflects the varied requirements of the customers Seven Refrigeration works with. While standard 20ft and 40ft containers remain central to the business, bespoke configurations provide an alternative where greater capacity or a different layout is required. The company is continuing to develop these units as part of its wider approach to providing more flexible refrigerated storage.

Looking ahead, Seven Refrigeration plans to continue expanding its presence across the UK, while developing its range of bespoke wide-body installations. The company is also exploring the introduction of blast freezer solutions. Alongside this expansion, continued investment in staff training remains a priority as the business develops its services and equipment for the years ahead.
